Postal volunteers go green to brighten up estate

GREEN fingered Royal Mail workers took part in a community project to help make improvements to Crewe’s Sherborne Estate.

A team of five volunteers helped landscape the garden at The Bungalow, in Sherborne Road, which is the central hub of the estate.

The work is part of a major £4.5 million regeneration project, which will see the outdated 1970s style estate, transformed into a vibrant and spacious community.

The project, which covers parts of Sherborne Road, Haslemere Way, Greenacres and Roedean Walk, will see a complete redesign of the estate, including the demolition of 13 properties to open up space, the remodelling of existing homes, and the creation of a pocket park and traffic calming measures to increase road safety.

Wulvern Housing, which owns all but six of the properties on the estate, is funding the project and there has been a united effort with the borough and county councils, community groups and partnership agencies to work towards the project for the last year.

To help get the ideas for the project across to residents and gain their support and input, a community base has been operating for the last 12 months on the estate in two adjoining units called The Bungalow.

Post Office Manager, Andy Sutton said: “Royal Mail is a dynamic organisation and vitally plays a significant part within our communities nationwide.

“This initiative clearly demonstrates our commitment to our community, by investing in our local community, we are improving the environment by providing a site whereby the local residents can socially interact and relax and maybe bring a smile to the faces of the local children!”
