YOUNG Nantwich actor Matthew Colenso has secured a coveted spot at a performing arts college – a full year early.
Matthew, aged 16, is in the spotlight having gained a place at Liverpool’s Merseyside Dance and Drama College, which he will start in September Over the past two years staff and students at Malbank School and Sixth Form College have produced sell out productions of The Wizard of Oz and South Pacific, with students from all years participating either in the spotlight or backstage.
Matthew, who was a lead character in South Pacific, said: “It’s like some kind of bug – you can’t stay away from it - possibly the best addiction you could fall for!”
Matthew is now ready to take his first steps towards becoming a professional actor and dancer, with a qualification that could enable him to coach others in the future.
He added: “I’d love to teach and let others experience what I’ve experienced already.
“You can’t explain the excitement and adrenalin of stepping out in front of an audience and showing them the result of months of hard work.”
Performing arts tutor Mr Williams said: “We will definitely miss him, but we know that Matthew has made the most of the opportunities here at Malbank and is prepared for the challenges ahead of him.”
