Drop in to see how your eyesight is

THE IRIS Vision Resource Centre has teamed up with staff at the Rope Green Medical Centre in Shavington to run an Eye Health Drop-in on Tuesday next week.

The event will offer demonstrations of aids and equipment for people with a visual impairment and free eye screening.

Low vision assessments will also be offered, as well as advice and information about eye conditions and local services available to people with poor sight.

IRIS operations manager Wendy Worthington said that the exercise was about raising awareness about eye health, particularly amongst older people where visual impairment tended to be most prominent.

She said: “Many older people tend to view poor sight as inevitable but this is not the case and very often regular eye tests are all that is needed to improve things.

“For others there are numerous aids and equipment, like talking clocks and watches and large-dial phones which can make life easier, as well as magnifiers and lamps which can help with daily living tasks.”

IRIS is viewing the Rope Green drop-in as a pilot project aimed at making services more accessible to people, and if it is successful will run projects in other areas.
