CAB surgeries set up to combat rising debt

THE Citizens Advice Bureau is to open specialised debt surgeries at its offices in Crewe and Nantwich to meet the demand for people who need help sorting out their financial difficulties.

Crewe and Nantwich CAB already has a well-established team of caseworkers who specialise in Debt and Money Advice.

Now the bureau will be extending its opening hours to meet the rising demand for money advice.

It will also be offering a special telephone line from Monday to Friday from 2-4 pm for people who need help with their money worries.

CAB manager Roy Noon said: “Debt is the fastest growing problem for the CAB.

“Day in, day out, we see the devastating impact of debt on people’s lives and the desperation people feel about their situation.

“Families break up, people lose their homes, and often suffer long-term depression and anxiety as a result of the worry involved.

The free, confidential, independent debt advice that we offer can help turn things around and prevent similar problems happening again in the future.”

The CAB highlights danger signs to watch for as l Finding it hard to juggle all your household bills?

l Struggling to make mortgage or rent payments on time?

l Avoiding opening your bills?

l Having no savings and living on an overdraft?

l Regularly using your credit card to get cash or pay for your shopping?

l Not knowing how much you owe?

l Only paying the minimum payment on your credit cards?

l Borrowing money to pay off other debts?

The CAB warns that people who do any of these could well be on the road to a debt problem, so it urges people to seek advice before it gets worse.

To get free, confidential help phone the CAB Debt phone line on 01270 257881 between 2pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday.
