NANTWICH Players ended their season of drama on a high after proving successful again in the annual awards given by the Cheshire Theatre Guild.

Four out of six productions by the company received nominations and there were three outright winners, two in the Youth Theatre play Daz 4 Zoe and one in an adult production.

The Poster Award went to Vicky Riley who lives in Nantwich and the most promising youngster (male) award went to William Patten for his role as Gerald and other parts in Daz 4 Zoe.

Best supporting actress went to Sue Woodward as Fairy May in The Curious Savage.

Company chairman Jeremy Acklam said: “An adjudicator visits about 60 productions staged all over Cheshire in a season.

“He writes a full report and critique of every aspect of each play looking at everything from the poster to the acting, set, lighting, sound and direction.

“At the end of the year the adjudicator nominates up to five potential winners in each category and during an evening of high suspense winners are announced and receive a cup or salver to engrave and keep for 12 months.

“We are thrilled to have these awards for our plays.

“Presenting them is quite a full-time hobby for many members and such recognition is well-deserved.”

The first play of next season is Groping for Words by Sue Townsend.

This poignant comedy addresses the topical theme of adult literacy. Auditions have been held and the play will be performed between October 4 to 11.
