Skills centre will open to help job hunters

A NEW skills centre will be launched in the West End of Crewe next week to help people find employment.

Local residents, community partners and businesses are invited to the opening of Timbrell House on October 10. Former Crewe Alexandra and England international Geoff Thomas will formally opening the new venture.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday at 1pm followed by refreshments and an opportunity to see the facilities until 3.30pm.

The centre, which supports the development of local skills and well-being, will open properly to the public on the following Monday.

Co-managing director of the Pathways Community Interest Company Yvonne Clarke said: “This neighbourhood facility will provide locally needed resources as well as training facilities benefiting the wider community.”

The building provides employment and training resources together with well-being services all under one roof.

The facility is a result of a dynamic partnership between Pathways CIC, IBM and Wulvern Housing. Wulvern have provided the building and IBM have spent five days completing the renovation and interior decoration of the property.

IBM have donated more than £9,000 to the project and Pathways CIC has provided £12,000.

An IBM spokesman said their staff understand how difficult it is to move into employment once someone has been out of work for any length of time and have committed to share their skills. Pathways CIC administrator Nigel Griffiths said: “At Timbrell House, job seekers will be able to use computers, phone, and attend career workshops and connect with employers.

“Employers can take advantage of job matching, assistance with recruitment and training of local people currently not in employment to meet their organisational needs. “Consultations are taking place in the community to identify what other services the facility should offer and the opening offers an opportunity for local people to have their say.

“Our job is to offer all the options in one place and tailor services to each person or business.”

The centre will be open Monday to Friday from 9am until 4pm. For more information call 01270 275222.
