Seminars are set up to help families dealing with autism

FAMILIES in South Cheshire with children suffering from autism are be being offered help in two free seminars in Crewe.

The sessions run by the National Autistic Society will offer advice and information for parents or carers whose children have been diagnosed with the disorder.

The first seminar takes place on Tuesday, October 14, and deals with ‘supporting the siblings of your child with an ASD’.

It focuses on strategies to teach siblings about their brother or sister and their autism.

This seminar is aimed at any parents who have a child with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and additional siblings.

The second session is on the following day and offers advice on ‘managing anger in young people with Asperger Syndrome’.

This is a practical seminar that focuses on communication strategies and dealing with difficult behaviour.

It also looks at dealing with a child’s anger and some coping strategies.

NAS spokesman Andrew Powell said: “Autism can be a serious and disabling condition and is much more common than most people think.

“However the right support at the right time can make an enormous difference to peoples’ lives.”

Both seminars take place between 10.30am and 2.30pm at the Ludford Family Centre on Ludford Street.
