TACKLING climate change is being placed high on the agenda of the new Cheshire East council.
The authority’s leader Wesley Fitzgerald and chief executive Erika Wenzel have signed the Nottingham Declaration, a voluntary pledge to address the issue.
The declaration represents a high-level statement of commitment that any council can make to its own area.
Launched in 2000 it commits authorities to working towards reducing carbon emissions.
The ceremony took place on World Carbon Footprint Day on Thursday during a visit to Nantwich by Local Government minister John Healey, responsible for overseeing Cheshire’s transition to unitary local government.
The venue, Mill House in Nantwich, is a brand new, state-of-the-art extra care housing development built by Wulvern Housing in partnership with the County Council.
The development has been built to high environmental standards and will be accredited under the Eco Homes scheme.
