Open night will highlight help for dyslexia sufferers

PEOPLE who want to learn more about dyslexia can make the most of a special open evening at South Cheshire College in Crewe later this month.

Cheshire Dyslexia Association is hosting the free information event to raise awareness of the condition and give people to valuable advice and support.

A series of workshops are being staged during the evening on Wednesday, October 22, from 6pm until 9pm.

The event targets post 16 students and adult dyslexics, teachers and learning support mentors and college staff are also invited to attend for information and resources.

Workshop sessions include Understanding Dyslexia as an Adult and Computers – Assistive Technology.

Assistive Technology tutor Jonathan White is hosting a workshop to reveal some of the latest technology which can help to support dyslexics.

Representatives from a number of organisations will be in attendance at the open evening including SEN Marketing, Crossbow Education and the Dyslexia Action Team.

Rose Heesom, chairman of the Cheshire Dyslexia Association, said: “There are many adults out there who may have only just realised that they suffer from dyslexia and aren’t sure where to go for help.

“People often feel isolated and the association recognises the need to provide support and create a positive angle to dyslexia.

“Hopefully, people will come along to find out more. This is a great opportunity for them to talk to others and share ideas.”
