IMPROVEMENTS have been made to a number of allotment sites in Crewe following a renewed interest in gardening.
The borough council’s grounds maintenance team have most recently refurbished the site at Electricity Street.
The works have included a new 47-metre long perimeter fence with new entrance gates.
Electricity Street is the third site to have the fencing renewed following earlier improvements to the Claughton Avenue and Henry Street sites.
More people nationally are taking on allotment plots, not only for the environmental benefits, but increasingly people are realising the health and economic benefits.
In addition, a large number of schools and community groups have recently been taking on allotment plots for their own activities.
Assistant parks manager Glyn Ollier said: “Allotments have never been so popular and waiting lists now exist on most of the authority’s sites.
“We have undertaken a review of our allotments and are gradually improving the basic infrastructure by renewing the perimeter fencing and entrance gates where required.”
