SCOTLAND’S finest Beatnic Prestige will be playing at the Box on Friday Feb 6 as part of a special MMU ‘refresher’ bash.
After wreaking indie havoc north of the border, the punk-popsters make the journey from Dunfermline on their new UK tour.
Last year saw them supporting Parka, The Law, Sergeant, The View and The Paddingtons.
The band came together in August 2006 and following a few weeks of intense rehearsing played their first gig to a sell out home crowd in Dunfermline.
Immediately after, they headed off on a mini tour of England which included a night at The Cavern in Liverpool.
Months of continuous touring in their converted school bus has seen the band play a string of sell out shows, highlights including a New Year show at the legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow.
The band released their first four-track self-titled EP on January 3.
It kicks off with the punchy hip-swinging, head-shaking 9 Clicks followed by the rowdy carnage of Pearfect.
The intensely intimate Charlie Brown is packed to the rafters with reasons as to why Beatnic are a real force in Scotland’s indie scene and displays the band’s considerable song writing talents.
Closing anthem Doubtfire is a youth-orientated high-octane soundtrack of every town and city’s evening high street, pub and taxi rank mayhem.
Beatnic consist of Jim McNab on lead vocals and guitar, Alan Mills on lead guitar and vocals, Billy Underwood on drums and bass player Lee Christie.
The band show an intelligent perception of the currently fragmented music industry.
Jim said: “Gone are the days when major record companies come along, pick you up and everyone makes a living.
“It is a DIY market and we intend to be at the forefront of Scottish music in the year ahead.”
The band’s influences include The Beatles, The Jam, The Libertines, The Who, Small Faces, Oasis and The Ordinary Boys.
The night will feature support acts and plenty of other shenanigans delivered by the creative heads at the MMU students union.
