A NANTWICH resident has selflessly given up a prize in order to help make dreams come true for local children.
The Nantwich man, who wishes not to be named, won a prize worth £100 in a draw held at housing trust Wulvern’s customer conference.
Instead of accepting the prize he asked that a donation be made to the South West Cheshire branch of Diabetes UK.
The group is currently fundraising to take youngsters from Crewe and Nantwich, who suffer from the disease, away on a much deserved holiday.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of Diabetes UK, volunteer Dennis Moss said: “We are very grateful for this generous donation – it takes us one step further to securing the children’s holiday.”
The South West Cheshire Diabetes UK volunteers group meet every month at St Luke’s church in Willaston and hold a varied programme of events.
Last year they raised more than £10,000 for Diabetes UK, which not only went toward research nationally into the disease but also funded the production of literature for local children and young people who are being treated for the illness.
The cheque was presented by Wulvern’s Nikki Critchlow, who added: “We were more than happy to exchange the prize and are delighted that it will bring happiness to many local children.”
