NANTWICH youngster Paige Adams was named as the town’s new Community Princess at a glittering ceremony last week.

Paige, aged 11, of Wyche County Primary School, took up the role after winning the competition at Brine Leas School.

Her two attendants were names as Amelie Curthoys, age six, and Lily-May Torr, aged nine, both of Willaston County Primary School.

The three winners were chosen from some 24 contestants in front of an audience of around 200 friends and family.

The parade and crowning of the princess and her attendants will be held at the annual Nantwich Family Fun Day at Barony Park on July 11.

The competition was sponsored by Nantwich firms Headquarters, which will do the winners’ hair and make-up, Fiori, which will provide the flowers and Beverley Wedgeood, which will provide a dress for the princess.

Nantwich Mayor Edith Williams presented sashes and trophies to the winners, who will also enjoy a night out in a limousine for up to eight people.

The main attraction at this year’s free fun day is the Air Raid Freestyle Motocross Display Team from North Wales, which will be thrilling the crowds with their spectacular stunts.

And amongst the new attractions will be a dog show open to all kinds of canine companions, pedigree and mixed breed alike.

The show is sponsored by Oscar’s Pet Foods and it will include a wide variety of classes, such as Best Looking Dog and Prettiest Bitch, Best Puppy, Dog with the Waggiest Tail, Best on Six Legs - a combined presentation by dog and handler - and Dog most like its Owner!

Anyone looking to enter a pet in the competition should pre-register on the day at the Oscar’s store gazebo.

Also at the event will be old favourites including a fairground, inflatable amusements, a climbing wall, birds of prey, donkey rides, Punch and Judy, Morris dancing and the ever popular battle of the bands.

No alcohol is allowed on the showground so that the event can remain a safe and enjoyable family-friendly occasion.

Anyone interested in taking a stall on the day should contact Mr Cafferty on 01270 842560 or secretary Lynne Mulrooney at nanty-riah@tiscali.co.uk.
