South Cheshire MP Backs Bingo Protests

CREWE and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson showed his support for bingo this week as players and clubs united in a planned demonstration at the Houses of Parliament.

They were protesting against the increase in bingo duty from 15% to 22%.

Mr Timpson joined the Bingo Association, Gala Bingo and representatives from a number of operators from around the country, along with hundreds of customers from across the UK.

Wearing Alastair Darling face-masks and waving banners, the crowd played Empty House Bingo. The game was created specifically for the occasion and saw leading bingo caller Ricky Denton, dressed as Gordon Brown, using a very special version of ‘bingo-lingo’.

Since the increase was announced in the April budget, bingo players across the UK have been writing to their local MPs demanding to know why the Government is targeting them.
