Graham Is New Scouting Chief

GRAHAM Phillips has been appointed the new county commissioner for Cheshire taking charge of nearly 11,000 members of the Scout movement in Cheshire.

Graham, who is a well-known entrepreneur and managing director of a specialist software development company, has officially taken up the reigns after a ceremony attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.

One of his first priorities is to encourage more scouting leaders to get involved.

There are currently 800 children on the waiting list to join the scouting movement in Cheshire – and by encouraging more leaders, and other help, more children will get the opportunity to take part.

Graham said: “There are 800 young people on waiting lists who want to be part of the adventure that is scouting.

"This has to be a challenge that everybody in a position of responsibility must be prepared to accept to make sure we do everything we can to make Scouting available to these young people.

“To deliver fantastic scouting to all the young people who want to experience the activities and excitement of the world’s largest youth movement we need more adult help – this could be as leaders, admin support or specialist trainers."

Ian Sowerby, district commissioner for Crewe, added: “I would like to welcome Graham as the new county commissioner.

“I am sure that working together we can offer a great experience for people who what to join scouts in Crewe.”
