CREWE'S South Cheshire College has teamed up with Bolton Wanderers Football Club to deliver a brand new football coaching qualification.
The college kicks off the programme in Coaching and Instructing Football in September.
Students who sign up for the course will learn the skills and background knowledge needed to enter a coaching career in the ‘beautiful game’ and elements of the programme will be delivered by sports lecturers and education staff from the Premiership club.
The course is a one year full-time qualification which will take place at the college’s Dane Bank Avenue campus, and also provides visits and work experience opportunities that give the learner a thorough grounding in working for sports organisations that deliver football training.
In addition, students will also complete qualifications in football coaching and first aid, numeracy, literacy, IT and employability skills.
The college has established strong links with employers, which help with the delivery of many different courses, through its employer engagement programme – which aims to bridge the gap between business and education.
Jez Semple, course team leader at South Cheshire College, said: “This promises to be a very exciting programme and we are thrilled to be linking up with a top flight Premiership club like Bolton Wanderers to deliver the course.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for our students and anyone who is interested in the course doesn’t have to be an outstanding footballer – enthusiasm and a general knowledge of the sport is more important. Hopefully, we can help people to forge a career in football coaching.”
During the course there will be opportunities to play for the college football teams and receive paid work with recognised tour operators delivering football training to holidaymakers when they finish.
The course has been endorsed by Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson.
He said: “As someone who graduated through the coaching ranks, I urge anyone with an interest in coaching to benefit from the vast amount of knowledge and experience available at Bolton Wanderers."
Jez added: “This course is a must for anyone who is interested in a hugely rewarding career in football coaching.”
