Crewe man is 'mechanic of the year'

A MOTIVATED mechanic from Crewe has been named Apprentice of the Year.

Simon Bishop, 20, has worked at Cheshire Repairs Centre, in Coppenhall, since he impressed employers on a work experience placement when he was 15.

After completing his advanced apprenticeship in motor vehicle maintenance and repair, Simon won the overall accolade from a shortlist of 31 finalists due to his continued determination and ambition to succeed.

He was named Apprentice of the Year at an annual ceremony held at Crewe Hall and organised by training provider Total People Ltd.

It was open to 4,000 young people involved in work-based training through the company.

“Simon has gone from strength to strength, becoming a key member of the team,” said Stephen Jones, general manager at Cheshire Repairs.

“He is a self-starter with broad knowledge and is highly skilled in mechanics, electronics and diagnostics.”

John Adams, Simon’s Total People training advisor, added: “He has totally exceeded in all areas of his apprenticeship; in performance, behaviours, application and education.

“Simon is totally committed, working in his own time to ensure the continued success of the business.”

The winner of each awards category received a cheque for £150.

Simon was announced the overall Apprentice of the Year from each of the category winners, receiving a further £150 and a designer watch in addition to his category prize.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Simon.

“I have always had a passion for cars so it’s a dream come true for me to work with them every day.”

The success continues for Simon who has recently taken over the management of Cheshire Repairs following the semi- retirement of the owner.
