THE BBC’s Antiques Road Trip comes to Nantwich on August 6 at the Peter Wilson auction salesroom.

The programme is a new series which pairs eight of Britain's best-loved antiques experts and sends them on a road trip across the UK in a selection of classic cars.

They will compete with each other to make the most money buying and selling antiques.

In week two, David Harper and James Lewis will start their leg of the journey in Northern Ireland before travelling to the Lake District.

And they will stop off at the Victoria Gallery on Market Street on Thursday August 6 to watch the objects they have purchased en route get auctioned off.

Peter Wilson principal Robert Stones said: “It’s going to be huge fun.

“The BBC's Bargain Hunt , Cash in the Attic and Flog It! are firm favourites and we are thrilled to have been chosen as one of the auction houses in what is going to be a fascinating new series of programmes.

”People should come along to the auction and get their faces on the telly, even if they're not interested in bidding."

There'll be no shortage of bidders for one lot to be offered in the Nantwich part of the show, which is sure to appeal to collectors of railwayana.

This is a gold-mounted Malacca walking cane which is inscribed ‘Presented by Ossett Chamber of Trades to T. France Stationmaster Ossett 1921-1926".

Ossett, between Dewsbury and Wakefield to the east of West Yorkshire is now the largest town in Yorkshire and one of the largest in Britain without a railway station.

The original station was opened in 1889 by the Great Northern Railway, but closed under Dr Beeching in 1964.

Ironically, last month the Association of Train Operating Companies proposed Ossett as one of seven English towns with a strong business case for the location of a new railway station.

Robert added: "A benefactor should buy the cane so it can be displayed when the new station is built.”

The free event starts at 11am, wit viewing on the previous day from 9am to 5pm.
