High Sheriff Comes To Town

THE High Sheriff of Cheshire William Fergusson visited Crewe last week to present awards to young people who enjoy the local weekly group ‘Buzzin’.

The facility is an after school club on Thursdays for youngsters aged 12 to 16 who live with just their mum or dad.

It is part of the outreach of South Cheshire CLASP, which is the local charity that supports single parent families, based at The Ludford Family Centre.

Angie Bartlett, the charity’s project manager, said: “When we received funding from National Crimebeat, which is a charity of the Association of High Sheriff’s, we were able to engage some of our young people in alcohol awareness and also anger strategies.

“This has helped challenge inappropriate behaviour and raise awareness of the importance of safe communities.

“The young people achieved this in a very friendly and informal setting and were subsequently entered for the National Crimebeat Awards."

William Fergusson presented ten young people with certificates of commendation, in recognition of the ‘exceptional and highly valued contribution’ they have made to towards safer communities.

He also gave a talk on the history and role of the High Sheriff.
