AN enterprising Sea Cadet from Crewe is riding the crest of a wave after being selected as a Navy Board Cadet.

Annabel Broad has been honoured for the outstanding example she has set during her time with the Crewe division of the Sea Cadets.

In her new role the 17-year-old South Cheshire College student will attend some high-profile ceremonies and parades in London, meet members of the Royal family and raise the overall profile of the Sea Cadets.

She will also gain a privileged insight into higher Naval policy and the work of very senior serving officers.

Annabel will represent the North West Area of the Cadets and join five other Navy Board Cadets standing up for different areas of the UK at national events.

The Navy Board Cadet will act as an escort to Naval personnel, who are effectively the top level management board of the senior service, or other senior Royal Navy and Royal Marine officers, at different ceremonies and functions.

She was nominated for the prestigious award by Petty Officer Adams, Commanding Officer at Crewe Sea Cadets, and District Officer Brayford, a Lieutenant Commander with the Cadets.

Annabel said: “I’m really thrilled to have been selected as a Navy Board and it’s a great honour.

“I love the Cadets and I’ve done so much since I first joined them when I was 14.

“I’ve met Prince Andrew at St James’s Palace, attended national parades across London and tried lots of different activities, but this will take my involvement with them to a new level.”

The former Sandbach Girls School pupil attends the Cadets several times a week and works towards engineering qualifications, improving her navigation skills and practicing for military band parades.

She also takes part in a host of action-packed activities such as kayaking.

Annabel, of Haslington, has also attended outdoor residentials in all corners of the UK and achieved the British Canoeing Award in kayaking and a national certificate in sailing.
