A NORTHWICH filmmaker hopes the short movie he has been shooting in a town centre café will find some glory at the Cannes Film Festival.

James Kennedy, 24, of Granville Street, in Leftwich, is now hived away editing The Lonely Hearts Club, which he shot last week in Bruschetta, in Witton Street.

James said: “It’s a kind of anti-romantic comedy really, which attempts to turn all the usual clichés on their heads.

“It involves four stories or rants from people in the cafe talking about their relationships – either they have been dumped or have broken up or something has gone wrong.

“It is shot in a film noir black and white style and the stories all take place at the same time and are inter-linked.

“We used some local people and a number of actors from Manchester.

“We finished filming on Wednesday last week and I am now working 10 hours a day editing the film and slowly going insane in the process.”

James, who wrote the script about a year ago, is now working to finish the film by March 15, in order to send it to the Cannes festival.

If it is accepted it will be screened at the famous festival in April.

He hopes the success will lead to better exposure and possibly more investment for future projects.

James explained: “We are looking for more investment to do bigger things.

“There are tax breaks available for companies and individuals to provide funding rather than just giving the money to the Government.”

James has worked on a number of different projects in the past including music videos for local bands such as The Cordells.

He has also completed another short film Dead City – a three-part horror story set at the old Regal cinema in Northwich.
