A CREWE student is targeting a career in sports teaching after teaming up with two local schools.
Mark Beresford has volunteered offered his services to Springfield School in Crewe and Congleton High School to deliver coaching sessions to pupils.
Mark is using the sessions to develop his coaching skills and build up work placement hours for his foundation degree in Sports Coaching and Fitness.
He is in his second and final year of the course at South Cheshire College and will move on to Manchester Metropolitan University for his third year.
The 20-year-old helps disabled pupils at Springfield School develop their fitness skills and organises basic games of football and tag rugby every Monday morning.
On Thursdays he works with the PE department at Congleton High School to deliver curriculum activities including badminton, rugby and basic gymnastics.
Mark said: “I’m grateful to both schools for letting me go in and do the sessions. On the foundation degree course you are basically left to your own devices and organise your own placements.
“You have to complete a placement of 60 hours so by helping out at these schools I’m well on the way towards that although I see this as a development opportunity and a chance to make some good contacts in local schools.
“I’m coaching students of different ages and abilities as well at both sessions which is all good experience.
“I’ve had my sights set on being a PE teacher for a number of years now and that hasn’t changed.”
