A STRING of South Cheshire charities came together last week to celebrate the founding of the first Rotary Club in 1905.
Some 21 local charities, which have received support from the Rotary Club of Crewe, met at the Hunters Lodge in Crewe to celebrate the milestone.
Amongst the groups involved were Crewe and District Youth Centre, MacMillan Cancer Support, Sea Cadets, Crewe Widows Association and the Cheshire Downs Syndrome Support Group.
David Heyes, president of the Rotary Club of Crewe, said: “Whilst this is a celebration of the founding of Rotary it is also a celebration of the wonderful work done by these charities.
“During my term I have been privileged to see this work first hand and it is truly remarkable.
“The Rotary Club of Crewe was formed in the early days of this movement, in 1932, and has been supporting local charities for over 77 years.
“To see this group of committed people involved in these charities is an inspiration and I am sure the Rotary Club will continue to support causes such as this for another 77 years.”
