MOUNTAIN climbing and the world of business are coming together to raise money for a Sandbach charity.
Railway Children is inviting businesses and retailers to join forces and take part in a corporate team building challenge from June 24 to 26.
It involves climbing the three highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland – with travel and sleep between peaks on board a train.
Railway Children, a charity helping children living on the streets, is looking to recruit 50 teams of four people from the Cheshire East area to attempt the mountain expedition.
Each team is tasked with raising a total of £3,500 for the charity – to fund outreach projects with street children in the UK, India and Africa.
The aim is for business people to improve their skills in leadership, management, networking and communication as they work together in teams of four to trek up Scafell Pike in England, Snowdon in Wales and Ben Nevis in Scotland.
Katie Mason, events manager with Railway Children, said: “We are the only charity in the world to organise the Three Peaks Challenge by rail.
“A special train will pick up participants at Crewe and transport the 200 charity mountaineers between mountains.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime achievement and it takes tremendous courage and comradeship to finish the climb.
“We also have a highly professional team to ensure safety.
“Guides are strategically placed at various heights of the mountain.
“Every team of four climbers has a radio contact for communications, we have medical people to lend assistance and all equipment is inspected before the climb.
“Everyone must have the right gear – from walking boots to waterproofs, head torches, whistles, maps and compasses.
“The last piece of the jigsaw is timetabling the train. When it has to go it really must go, but we even have a back-up plan for late arrivals!”
