Workshop To Help Fledgling Crewe Firms

WOULD-be business owners in Crewe are being invited to a free business planning workshop at Scope House on March 24 and 25 at 9am.

The session is being held by business support agency Blue Orchid, which is seeing a sharp increase in enquiries from people wanting to become their own boss.

Blue Orchid managing director Heather Hayes said the majority of queries are coming from workers who have been made redundant over the last six months.

She said: “This workshop is aimed at people from all backgrounds and aims to give people a clear idea of what becoming self employed entails.

“We look at all the big issues from whether being your own boss is right for you to the key building blocks of business such as financial planning, dealing with banks, applying for funding and understanding the law.

“Each person attending leaves with an action plan detailing the next steps. If they want to go forward we can then offer one to one expert advice to hone your business idea and getting your product or service right before trading.

“Setting up in business is a giant leap of faith which requires guts and clear thinking. We’re here to help people make their business dream a reality.

“We know that many families across Crewe have been hit hard by the recession.

“A lot of people in settled jobs have suddenly found themselves redundant.

“Some have found it enormously difficult to find work after losing their job and after six months of job hunting are deciding to go it alone and become self employed.

“Others are seeing redundancy as an immediate opportunity to cash in on their skill set and become their own boss.”
