LOCAL community radio station The Cat, has been awarded a £5,000 grass roots grant for its work over the last two years and for the station's plans for the future.
The Crewe and Nantwich Community Radio Society was formed almost two years ago as a not for profit social enterprise, which broadcasts on FM twice yearly and operates a full time Internet based station available online and also via Internet enabled mobile phones and portable devices.
The society has almost 50 paid up members and in the first two years some of the membership have been able to use their experience at The Cat to enhance their personal statements when applying for university places. Others have found The Cat a worthwhile interest whilst retired or unemployed, whilst several members have gained valuable experience in broadcasting both on FM and over the Internet.
The future looks bright for the station as the grant will enable the purchase of much needed equipment which had previously been hired. The station also aims to purchase a mobile studio to enable more community based broadcasts.
