NANTWICH Museum is looking to bring home a gold medieval brooch unearthed in a local metal detecting event.
The brooch was discovered last year during a metal detecting rally at Hurleston.
Known as the Hurleston Brooch, the solid gold clasp, which is about 30mm across, is highly ornate and described as a fine example of its type.
Having been declared as treasure the brooch was offered to Nantwich as the nearest accredited museum to the find site.
Grants totalling £3,000 have been awarded by various bodies but the Museum must provide a further £500 from its own funds.
Nantwich Town councillor Norma Simpson, a member of the Museum Trust, has led the way with a donation of £50.
She said: "Nantwich 's history is very important and must be preserved for the benefit of all and addition of the Hurleston Brooch to the collection will help to attract more visitors to the museum."
Anyone wishing to contribute to the purchase of the brooch can send cash or a cheque, made payable to Nantwich Museum Trust Ltd, to the museum in Pillory Street, CW5 5BQ.
