CREWE high school pupils took part in a series of science taster sessions last week to get a better idea of acedemic life at college.

King’s Grove High School students visited the science labs at South Cheshire College's new campus.

The classes gave them the opportunity to try different experiments and use scientific equipment in the state-of-the-art labs.

Mike Finney, the college's head of schools liaison, said: “This visit gave pupils the opportunity to come and take a closer look at South Cheshire College and our fantastic science facilities.

“The science subjects are very popular here and these short classes gave school pupils the opportunity to focus on different aspects of science.

“Hopefully, their experience will encourage them to sign up for a science A-Level programme or BTEC course at college when they finish school.”

The sessions all had different themes with biology focusing on immobilised enzymes, physics on pendulums and astronomy, chemistry on recycling plastics and science and society on science issues in the media.

Mike added: “We organise a number of taster sessions for local schools throughout the year and hopefully pupils enjoyed the sessions and were impressed with what they saw.

“Our aim with all of these activities is to give high school and primary school pupils an early insight into what we offer to help with their future planning and development.”
