ENGLAND footballer Michael Owen's South Cheshire horseracing stables has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Michael's wife Louise presented the cheque for £500 to Tracey Lyons of the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre.
The money was raised at an owner’s weekend at Michael’s Manor House Stables in Hampton.
The weekend included an open morning at Manor House as well as a charity auction and raffle.
Prizes included a signed Manchester United shirt and tickets to see Kylie Minogue in concert at the MEN arena in Manchester. Some £1,000 was raised over the weekend and the cash will be divided equally between the horse charity and Alder Hey Children’s hospital. Louise Owen is a patron of the TRC and is actively involved in the re-training of racehorses.
Racing manager Mike Foster said: “It was a great effort by our owners to raise such a decent amount of money for our chosen charities.
"As always we have had generous support from Michael and Louise Owen and it is great that we could raise money for a charity so close to Louise’s heart.
"The open morning went really well, our trainer Tom Dascombe and his teams offer owners a real welcome.
"Tom and assistant trainer Colin spend a lot of time with the owners and ensure they enjoy an exciting morning on the gallops.
"Everyone who visits Manor House remarks on the friendliness of the team as well as commenting on the excellent facilities for horse and owner.”
