VANDALS targeted a Weaverham school during the Christmas holidays.
Police are appealing for information after the incident, which happened at Russett School, in Middlehurst Avenue.
It is believed that the culprits set out to steal lead from the roof of the school as a significant amount of lead was found rolled up and left on the roof.
A small strip of lead was stolen but the damage caused by the vandals was significant as the removal of the lead caused water damage to the inside of the school building.
PC Jocelyn Clarke, who is investigating the incident, said: "These individuals have targeted a school that now has to cover the costs of repair and replacement of the roof.
“This will impact on the day to day running of the school and upon the pupils.
“I would ask any local residents who may have seen anyone within the school grounds over the Christmas period, to contact me."
Anyone with information should ring Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 422 of 31.12.11.
