THE return of 22-year-old Crewe Alexandra striker Jordan Connerton to the Nantwich ranks failed to inspire them to victory against Chasetown, but will undoubtedly prove useful in the coming weeks.

The one-month loan return of Connerton, who scored an impressive nine goals in 12 appearance during a loan spell for Dabbers last season, has been welcomed by Nantwich boss Jimmy Quinn.

“It’s great to have Jordan back with us” he said.

“He’s relishing the opportunity of reacquainting himself with the club and its supporters and hopefully he will give us some goals, as he did last time.”

While it is becoming apparent that it may be too late for Connerton to help Nantwich Town towards a play-off spot, as they currently sit 14 points off the pace set by fifth-placed Marine, they will hope he can boost their chances against Rushall Olympic at Weaver Stadium on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Nantwich 0 Chasetown 0

TEN-man Dabbers were forced to settle for their third consecutive home draw against a well organised Chasetown side.

Manager Jimmy Quinn retained the same starting line-up from last week’s defeat at Bradford, with Dennis Sherriff making his home debut and loan signing Jordan Connerton added to the bench.

The hosts started brightly but Chasetown had their fair share of the ball, with Daniel Quinn and David Bridgwater both testing home keeper Jonny Brain.

Chances were few and far between in a tight game that lacked tempo, but Dabbers’ ace marksman Michael Lennon almost broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when cutting in from the right and driving his shot wide.

The game could have run away from Nantwich when Latvian Aleksandrs Solovjovs received a second yellow card for a rash challenge in the 50th minute, but though the visitors began to make the advantage count they couldn't break the deadlock.

Lennon was then denied a goal when his effort from Sean Cooke's pass was ruled out for offside, and try as they might Dabbers continued to miss out on scoring chances.

Considering the length of time they were forced to play with 10 men Nantwich did well to rescue a point, but they will still be aggrieved that they didn't sink one of their chances to steal all three points at the death.
