A SOUTH Cheshire College student is gearing up for the fight of his life to raise cash for a good cause.
Father-of-two Phil Jones is hoping to pack a real punch when he steps into the ring for the charity stunt at Gregory’s nightclub on Saturday, March 31.
The 32-year-old, who plays American football for Crewe Railroaders, has never tried his hand at boxing before but is now in full training for the big showdown.
He is swapping his American football gear for his boxing gloves and will be roared on at the event by friends and family to raise cash for Sands – the stillborn and neonatal death charity.
Sands supports anyone who is affected by the death of a baby and promotes research to reduce the loss of babies lives.
Funkin Fitness is organising the White Collar Boxing Event, which will feature up to 15 fights, and Phil will be stepping into the ring for three two minute rounds during the evening.
Phil, from Crewe, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before but I heard about the boxing event and thought I would give it a go.
“American Football is my sport and I’ve never been in a boxing ring before but it’s all for a very worthy cause.”
Tickets are now on sale for the boxing night priced at £15 each and rise to £20 after March 1st.
