A CREWE logistics company has teamed up with Reaseheath College and the Job Centre Plus to offer unemployed drivers the opportunity to get back to work.

Expert Logistics, a two man white goods delivery service based in Weston Road, is giving young drivers the chance to gain a C1 licence, allowing them to become self-employed.

Two drivers, David Balmer and Daniel Colclough, have already left the company’s yard after completing the training programme, including a medical, theory test and customer service course.

Margaret Bardsley, Reaseheath director of business and marketing, said: “We are pleased to be working with our partners to offer work opportunities in the area and it’s great to see Expert logistics leading the way in training the next generation of drivers.”

The company moved to Crewe in February, bringing hundreds of new work opportunities to the area.

Lorraine Hewlett, Expert Logistics quality and excellence director, said: “As a business we are aware that there is a shortage of quality drivers available, we decided to take a different approach to finding them.

“Working with our partners we are now training people with the right customer service approach, which is what Expert logistics is all about.”

Trainee David Balmer said: “This is a great opportunity, I’ve wanted to be a driver for a long time and Expert has made it possible. I’m really looking forward to getting on the road.”

Expert Logistics is recruiting self employed drivers now, with advice and support in place for anyone who is unsure about setting up their own business. There is no start up fee and everything, including the vehicle, fuel and uniform are provided.
