A BINGO hall in Crewe is hoping for a full house this week when it launches its support for Leighton Hospital’s neonatal unit.

Mecca Bingo on Phoenix Leisure Park has pledged to support Mid Cheshire Hospital’s One in Eleven Appeal, which aims to raise £1million over the next two years to expand and enhance the birth aftercare facility.

Bingo goers will be invited to donate what they can during collections every first and eleventh of the month.

Mecca Crewe general manager Gill Clark said: “Bingo is of course a numbers game, and we hope we can help the One in Eleven Appeal reach its winning number.”

Mecca Crewe also plan to support the charity with an Olympic contest.

Teams of staff will be competing in events including shot put, swimming, and long jump.

Mecca customers will be able to buy a team and if their team wins they will receive a prize, with all proceeds going to the appeal.

The generous staff will even be holding their own torch relay around the bingo hall, to coincide with the Olympic Torch Relay passing through Crewe on May 31.

Of the 3,000 babies born in Mid Cheshire Hospitals every year, one in eleven need additional support – ranging from a few hours of special care to a few weeks in an intensive care unit.

Appeal fundraising manager Laura Bailey said: “There are going to be some really fun events that people can get involved with at Mecca and support their local neonatal services at the same time.”
