Students volunteer to stay in school for 24 hours

PUPILS at Malbank School in Nantwich will try to stay awake for 24 hours as part of a unique charity fundraising attempt to raise £5,000.

150 pupils will attend school as usual on Friday, June 29, but instead of going home with their classmates, they will be able to take part in various entertainment activities throughout the evening.

A bouncy castle, gladiator duel and inflatable assault course, as well as DVDs and computer games, will be on hand to help students stay awake.

Students can also take part in the Malbank’s own version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? and an ‘M-Factor’ talent contest.

The Stay Awake 24 event, which students in years 10-13 are helping to organise, will culminate in a big breakfast on Saturday morning, before pupils return home to catch up on their sleep.

The evening will be ‘Midsummer’s Christmas’ themed, complete with decorations and a giant festive tree.

Money raised will be donated to Children in Need and disabled children’s charity Caudwell Children.

Spencer Radford, Maths teacher and organiser said: “We are very grateful to a number of local and national companies who are supporting us, and are looking forward to what should hopefully be a fantastic event.”

Businesses or individuals wishing to support the event should contact Mr Radford on 01270 611009.
