College offers free courses
1:20pm Wednesday 15th August 2012 in News By Matthew Taylor
FREE GCSE courses are being offered by South Cheshire College.
People who don’t have a Grade A* to C in English or Maths may be eligible to sign up at the College’s Dane Bank Avenue campus in Crewe from September.
The free courses will allow people to gain an English or Maths GCSE qualification for the first time, or gain a higher GCSE grade than they have achieved a minimum of five years previously.
The courses are available in the daytime and evenings, and are offered as part of a national scheme that came about following the Wolf Review of Vocational Education.
Sue Brownbill, head of curriculum skills for life at South Cheshire College, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer free GCSE courses as part of this national initiative.
“Increasingly, employers, colleges and universities are looking for individuals with English and Maths GCSEs at grade C or above which have been gained during the last five years.
“This is a perfect opportunity for people to refresh their skills, gain a higher grade or study a GCSE for the first time, so we look forward to welcoming people on to these courses.”
Readers can find out if they are eligible by contacting Sue Brownbill on 01270 654654 or visiting www.s-cheshire.ac.uk
