A SHORT track of narrow-gauge steam railway offered a taster of what a new park and ride scheme might look like in Nantwich.

A railway was temporarily setup outside St Mary's Church in the town, offering free rides to members of the public.

The demonstration was to publicise a proposed 'Nantwich Crossrail' narrow-gauge railway link, from Nantwich Methodist Church on Hospital Street, to St Mary's Church, near the town centre.

The proposed route would extend the current track at the Methodist church - linking Morrisons shoppers with the town centre.

The steam locomotive - 'Mushy Pea' - was driven by Paul Durant, a Methodist parishioner and South Cheshire Model Engineering Society member.

For further information on the society, see More on the Methodist church at For further details on the railway link, contact Paul or Heather Durant on 01270 626168 or 07814508687.
