DOORSTEP rogue traders offering to sell cutlery and cookware are targeting Cheshire East residents.

The council has warned homeowners to be ‘on their guard’ against cold callers offering to sell items at the door.

A Council statement said: “The rogue traders claim to be from a European country and want to sell their goods before returning home. The more affluent areas of Cheshire East appear to be likely targets.”

The council said residents in Knutsford had received visitors who claim they have been to a trade show at the NEC Arena in Birmingham, and want to sell the remainder of their products.

The council is advising everyone throughout the county be aware of the scam.

The statement continued: “The goods appear well presented and are labelled ‘St Moritz’.

“Residents have been told they are Swiss made when, in fact, they are made in China.

“The caller also allows people to pay by credit card with a card reader and asks for the amount to be paid in Euros.

“Residents have paid as much as £1,500 for goods when the true value will be considerably less.”

If you are offered such goods, contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 040506.
