OLYMPIAN Beth Tweddle was given a hero’s welcome back to Cheshire East.

The three-time world champion, who began her career at Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics Club, was greeted in Bunbury by hundreds of cheering fans on Sunday, September 2.

The 27-year-old made history for Team GB with her uneven bars bronze medal at London 2012; becoming Britain’s most successful female gymnast.

Cheshire East Council Leader, Clr Michael Jones, presented Beth with a street sign: A mock-up of a real road name that will be used in a new housing development in Bunbury.

Cheshire East mayor, Clr George Walton, handed her a cut crystal bowl and announced his proposal to put Beth forward for ‘freedom of the borough’ – the greatest accolade the council can bestow upon an individual.

Beth, whose career spans around 14 years, told the crowds: “Winning the bronze medal was the greatest moment in my life, it didn’t matter that it wasn’t gold.

“I am absolutely delighted to be back home - how amazing that you’ve all made the effort to come out and see me.”

Clr Jones added: “We are extremely proud of Beth as she represents all that is good about being competitive - her achievements deserve no less.

“She has made us truly proud in Cheshire East and I am delighted to present her with a street sign in her honour.”
