Be careful using ATMs warn Sandbach police

SANDBACH police are urging the public to be wary when drawing out money from cash machines.

The advice follows the discovery of a tampered ATM device in Elworth, after a portable cloning device was placed in the machine by fraudsters outside the Co-Op in Lawton Way last month.

The device was luckily spotted by an off-duty officer before anyone could fall victim.

CCTV images are being analysed but police are appealing to anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity near cash machines on Middlewich Road or Lawton Way over the past month to contact PC Sarah Brockley on 101.

PC Brockley said, “We have had eight reports of people discovering that after using the cash machine they had around £200 to £300 taken out of their accounts and the transactions appear to be made from Australia. As it appears that fraudsters are in the area we would advise vigilance.”

Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
