Family fundraiser bags £2k for unit

A FAMILY helped to raise £2,400 for a new neonatal unit by opening up their home for a charity lunch.
The Charlesworth family, including mum Mary, dad Brian, daughters Helen and Dawn and sons Martyn and Philip, put on the lunch for 176 people in their garden at Higher Elm Farm, Church Minshull.
The money raised will go to the One in Eleven Appeal, which aims to create a new neonatal unit at Leighton Hospital.
Helen’s baby daughter Chloe was cared for on the neonatal unit when she was born four weeks premature in January, weighing just 3lb and 12oz.
Thanks to the care of staff, Chloe was allowed home four weeks later.
It was a busy weekend for the Charlesworths, who celebrated Dawn’s wedding on the Saturday, Chloe’s christening on the Sunday and the charity lunch on the Monday.
“Chloe was so small when she was born she needed help to keep growing and the staff were fantastic in caring for her and us. We just want to give back whatever we can,” said Helen.
Around 3,000 babies are born every year in Mid Cheshire Hospitals and approximately one in eleven will need additional support.
This ranges from a few hours of special care to a few weeks in an intensive care unit.
The appeal, by the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity, aims to raise £1m to expand the neonatal unit at Leighton Hospital and enhance facilities, providing more space and comfort for families during difficult times.
Appeal fundraising manager Laura Bailey said: “This was a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate while helping us continue and enhance the vital work of the neonatal unit in caring for babies like Chloe.
We can’t thank the Charlesworth family enough for their support.”
