I AM putting this petition forward on behalf of Mr Frank Hough of the Crewe Baths' Seahorse Swimming Club for disabled youngsters.
We will start with the facts: 1. The Council's capital programme includes £1.9m towards the building of a new swimming pool in Crewe, to replace the existing facility. The money earmarked for this project is part of the amounts received from the sale of assets (eg including the housing stock transfer). This was over five years ago, but the Council have done nothing, as in all cases for the benefit of the taxpayer.
2. Since the MMU have arrived in Crewe, they are trying to have Crewe made into a university town and even now are beginning to do some window-dressing through the local Crewe paper to show their partiality to Crewe by trying to take away their swimming baths. Crewe people have already been ripped off by £1.5m through the Wulvern housing. Apparently the Council leader, Cllr Brian Silvester, has taken it upon himself to confer with the Dean of MMU, Dennis Dunn on moving the baths to a site near to the MMU to the detriment of the people of Crewe and the enhancement to the MMU, on whose behalf? Cllr Silvester last year on information, received the sum of £15,007.58 in allowances and sundry expenses from the taxpayer, of whom 2,000 signed a petition that they wanted the baths to remain in Crewe, just in case this person is not sure of their responsibilities, they are to the taxpayers of Crewe.
3. At the Council meeting on March 19 the question was answered by Cllr McGinnis, Nantwich Independent Group stating that a feasibility study was to be put forward, there is no way that the MMU could get their hands on the taxpayers' money without the intervention of the Council. But this particular Councillor from Nantwich is chastised by Cllr Edith Williams who, in a letter to the papers, states that the roof of the Nantwich Swimming Baths is in a dilapidated condition and has been for a great many years, but here he is procrastinating on behalf of the MMU. But claimed £7,753.88 from the taxpayer in allowances and sundry expenses on Council duties. I think under the circumstances, would you say that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy from these two Councillors when the heading of the official letter of the Crewe Council is Serving the Community'.
4. The MMU, under the guidance of Dean Dennis Dunn, have spent a massive £20m on expansion, and have a £30m Arts Centre to include café, bar, art gallery, theatre, a sort of mini entertainment centre; with so much money surely they can afford to build a swimming baths to their wishes without the paltry sum of £1.9m of taxpayers' money, whose only desire is to have a family swimming pool, in Crewe, not a lot to ask? Dennis Dunn would not have known of the money allocated for Crewe Swimming Baths, but John Dunning would, as a past executive of Crewe Council and the ways that certain things can be achieved, and they are often photographed together, which brings me to a subject not usually put forward. That is Freemasonry; an article in the Telegraph stated are Freemasons running the world?' Perhaps not, but what is their influence? I know that there are some members of the Council who are Freemasons. Where does their loyalty lie? In my opinion the Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council have never run this town, this is, and for many years has been, run by the Business Sector. If in doubt look at the building that is taking place around Crewe, but not at Wardle! This does not mean that anything criminal is taking place, only the elasticity that the public sector have as against the private.
To finalise, there is no way that the MMU should have any say in the policies of the Crewe Council.
Dean Dennis Dunn is only interested in the MMU, which is expected of him, and with the help of his friend, John Dunning, whose only interest is public money for private enterprise, which only leaves the Councillors, where do they stand, you perhaps can stop this despicable attitude to the people of Crewe.
