Where were Lib Dems when they were needed?

CLEAR SPRINGS BAIL ACCOMMODATION I suppose I should thank the three Liberal Democrat councillors for their reminder about the planning issues surrounding the two Clear Springs bail houses in St Johns Ward (Guardian, April 24). But as always they are too late in taking action and are now resorting to scare tactics.

Clear Springs will have second thoughts about setting up houses in Crewe in future, and if they do try to return to the town they will have learnt from their first experience. They have to consult with residents first and all of the local authorities as they are contractually obliged to do.

Residents should not have to wait for legal wrangles to take place in planning and through the courts at appeal. This can take months if not years and while the process is underway residents' lives are being blighted and their properties are devalued.

The residents' actions in this case, ably supported by the authorities and the media, made things happen. This is called People Power.

It is a pity that the Lib Dems have to remind the residents of St Johns ward that WE ARE ALL STILL HERE (the heading in their Focus news letter). The question to ask is "where were they for the residents in St Johns' who were affected by the bail houses"?

Dorothy Flude.

County Councillor
