Pleasant poppy moment

Pleasant poppy moment Pleasant poppy moment

THE weekend before Armistice Day, I was on a house-to-house poppy round, when I came across a group of lads about nine years old.

One of them asked me how much a poppy cost and I replied that people gave a donation.

He put his hand in his pocket and showed me a five pence piece. I gave him and his friends a poppy each.

They were as pleased as punch and I put some money in the box for their enthusiasm.

On reflection I thought of the biblical incident of the widow’s mite who gave all she had to help people less fortunate than herself.

It seemed to me that the small boy’s thoughts were the same as the widow’s.
