ome common sense from Fiona Bruce

I AM writing in response to Fiona Bruce MP and her statements about legal marriage being extended to same sex couples.

I am pleased that she has been prepared to make her views known despite, them being very un-PC and against the personal opinion of her Conservative party leader, who increasingly seems like he should not just be in a coalition with Liberals but merging with them.

I am very concerned at how increasingly in our supposed democracy the personal agendas of prime ministers can become government policy after they have been elected, without any scrutiny by the public who they are supposed to be representing.

Tony Blair did this over the Iraq war despite clear overwhelming public opposition and saddled us with home-grown terrorism.

David Cameron’s determination to change the centuries old legal definition of marriage, which seems to have come out of the blue sky, to suit the demands of a vociferous one per cent of the population, is the latest manifestation.

I am pleased to give my support to Mrs Bruce, who works very hard for her constituency and seems to have a lot of that seemingly now endangered commodity – common sense.

Reports such as Breakdown Britain, from the Centre for Social Justice 2006, demonstrate that the breaking down of traditional marriage and the family is a key factor in society’s behavioural problems.

That is surely not a surprise.
