Gay marriage opposition

I FIND it difficult to understand why gay marriages should be regarded as one of the most serious threats to the Church of England in 500 years.
After all, we were commanded to love one another (John 13:34).
Should we not then be rejoicing when people are openly confessing their love for one another in a world where there is so much animosity?
