Pleased to see return of Dial-a-Ride bus scheme

I AM glad that Cheshire East Council has now come to its senses and reinstated concessionary bus passes on the now resurrected Dial-a-Ride service that was previously operated by East Cheshire Community Transport.

The 20 per cent drop in passenger bookings after the council stopped pensioners using their bus pass goes to show that the service was indeed a vital, front line service that many residents depended on to get out and about. There was a real worry that many pensioners would be left abandoned and unable to get to or from the shops.

I hope that the new Dial-a-Ride service provided by the council can match the level of service once provided by ECCT.

However, surely it would have been far simpler to have not removed the bus pass privilege in the first place.
