A man who claimed to have a bomb at one of London’s busiest railway stations has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Charing Cross station in central London was evacuated during rush-hour on Friday morning amid reports of a man on the tracks.
British Transport Police (BTP) have since described the incident shorty after 6.30am as a hoax and said a 38-year old man is being held under the Mental Health Act.
BTP specialist firearms officers attended alongside the Metropolitan Police, and the station was evacuated and remained closed for around 90 minutes.
BTP said they “would like to thank passengers and rail staff for their patience and understanding during this incident”.
No-one was injured, the Metropolitan Police said.
