Crewe/Nantwich Girls u16 3 Frodsham Town 2

CREWE and Nantwich continued their 100 percent record in Cheshire’s European League thanks to a superb comeback against a frustrated Frodsham.

The win sets up the forthcoming ‘derby’ between Crewe and Sandbach, who currently sit three point behind in third having won a game less.

The hosts needed some strong spirit to fight their way back from a 2-1 deficit, as after Selina O’Neil had given her side the lead on nine minutes with a trademark solo effort, the visitors stepped up with two goals of their own to take the lead at the break.

A tactical switch at half time made all the difference for Crewe, with Frodsham’s dangerous number 10 marked by Anna Lawton and Crewe’s normally excellent defence switching back on to keep the visitors scoreless in the second half.

The equaliser came on 55 minutes, Sophie Brooks’ fierce low shot dragging them level before completing the comeback with another low effort that beat the Frodsham keeper at her near post and sent Crewe on their way to a deserved victory.

THE under 14s team overcame a depleted squad to run out comfortable victors against European League rivals Egerton.

Great performances from player of the match Megan Richards, goalkeeper Lizzie Simpson and defenders Emma Peake and Ellie-Mae Saunders helped Crewe and Nantwich to keep their first clean sheet of the season, dominating possession to open a 1-0 lead at the break courtesy of Leah Ellson’s 20-yard finish.

The second half saw Crewe stretch their wings, with Ellson adding a second and Flic Davies making it 3-0, before Amber Smith and Caitlin Finnigan struck to complete the scoring and hand the girls their first win in the division this season.
