CREWE Flyers travelled to the second round of the Arena League North West Gala in Bury with a 32-strong team and returned home with an 18-medal haul.

The boys and girls from Crewe travelled to the Castle Leisure Centre to fight it out against teams from Chorley, Halton, Horwich, Prescot and Trafford Metro, but despite a brave effort could only finish in sixth place, three points back from Trafford.

Flyers' head coach Farouk Graba said: "I was pleased with the all the swimmers.

"Their effort and the commitment of the young team, who pushed Trafford Metro all the way down to the last few races."

That does not mean that the club did not celebrate some individual success, however, as Ben Cleavley played a part in all three of the club's gold medal winning races, claiming victory in open age 100m freestyle and as part of the first-placed open men's medley and free relay teams that also included Ben Buckley, Scott Coutts and Elliot Bloor.

There were silver medals for Ben Hinbest, Aaron Glover, Scott Coutts, Eleanor Bloor, Elliot Bloor and the girls under 15 medley relay team of Emma Duff, Beth Moore, Grace Farr and Olivia Ross.

Bronze medals were collected by Beth Moore, Bradley Hinbest, Stuart Coutts, Bryony Crank, Emma Duff, Elliot Bloor, Grace Farr, Ben Buckley, Stuart Eastwood and the open medley relay team of Beth Moore, Grace Farr, Shannon Friel, Eleanor Bloor.

Flyers must now improve significantly in the final round at Winsford if they are to improve their overall ranking.
